How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home

Finding the right ring size is one of the most important parts of choosing a ring. A comfortable fit means you'll enjoy wearing it every day, and with a few simple tools, you can get a good idea of your size from home.
Option 1: Measure a Ring You Already Own
If you already have a ring that fits the finger you'd like to wear your new ring on, this is often the easiest method.
Measure the inside diameter of the ring with a ruler or calipers, then compare it to a standard New Zealand ring size chart.
Remember to measure the inside edge—not the outside of the ring.
Option 2: Use a Strip of Paper
Cut a thin strip of paper around 5 mm wide.
Wrap it comfortably around your finger where the ring will sit. Mark where the ends meet, then measure the length with a ruler. This gives you the circumference of your finger, which can be matched to a ring size chart.
The paper should be snug enough that it won't fall off, but loose enough that it can slide over your knuckle.
A Few Tips
Measure your finger in the evening when it's at its largest. Cold hands can make your fingers smaller than usual. If you're between sizes, I generally recommend choosing the larger size. Wider rings often feel tighter than narrow rings, so you may prefer to size up slightly.
Still Unsure?
If you're local to a jeweller, most are happy to measure your finger in just a few minutes.
If you're purchasing from Wairua Jewellery and you're unsure about sizing, feel free to get in touch. I'd much rather help you find the right fit before your ring is made than have you guessing.
A well-fitting ring is one you'll hardly notice you're wearing—and that's exactly how it should feel.
